ATTENTION! MARSHALL COUNTY PROPERTY OWNERS ANNUAL PROPERTY REVIEWS TO BEGIN

In 1990, the West Virginia Legislature ordered a new statewide re-evaluation of all property in West Virginia.  The Law requires the Assessor’s office staff to visit and review all parcels of REAL ESTATE every three (3) years.  The following districts will be reviewed for Tax Year 2020:

Residential Property:Cameron District
Union District
Washington District
Commercial Property:Benwood
Cameron Corporation
Cameron District
Union District
Washington District

If a Data Collector visits your home or property they will:

**Identify themselves and present identification

**Explain purpose of visit

**Request permission to inspect the property

**Verify existing information for accuracy

**Leave a door hanger (if no one is home) and proceed with exterior inspection of home

They will not:

**Place a value on the property at that time

**Be required to enter your home, etc.

The VALUE of your property will be determined at a later date and will be based on the information collected from our visit, recent sales, current building costs, and neighborhood characteristics.  The Marshall County Assessor’s Office will be reviewing parcels that have been sold between July 2, 2018 and July 1, 2019. Also, the Marshall County Assessor’s Office will be reviewing any information we have that a parcel needs reviewed concerning any improvements or other changes made to the parcel.  Changes picked up will be placed on the Land Books for the 2020 Tax Year.  You will have the opportunity to review your values with an appraiser once values have been established.  Please check with our office in December 2019 to find out the appraised and assessed value of your property.  You will then have the opportunity to appeal your value, if necessary, in February 2020.

It is our policy to collect information in a courteous and professional manner while causing the least amount of inconvenience to the property owner.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Assessor’s Office at (304) 845-1490.
